The Be-True Leadership program was created for students by students to
promote a sense of Jewish identity thereby making them less susceptible to
deceptive proselytizers on their campuses.
We have identified several serious new missionary trends. Evangelical
Christian missionaries have expanded their efforts to include a covert
“peer-to-peer” proselytizing model that targets Jewish high school and
college students. A student may befriend a Jewish student with the
intention of converting him/her to his/her beliefs. This can happen by an
invitation to a party, concert, or retreat that is deceptively promoting a
specific belief system.
In an effort to empower the Jewish student community, Be-True aims to imbue
students with greater critical thinking skills, knowledge about Judaism as a
whole, and how to correctly decipher specific texts that missionaries
deceptively use to lure students away from Judaism. Be-True challenges
students to “Be-True” to themselves, think critically, and get all the facts
before making life decisions.
An integral part of Be-True is the Campus Rep program. All the Campus Reps
will receive training to conduct programs that will reach many! This
training will also cultivate within the Campus Reps the skills and knowledge
to answer questions about Judaism with confidence.
As a Campus Rep, you will start a ripple effect. By being trained to help
students who are targeted by missionaries, reaching out to the Jewish
community on your campus, and networking with Jewish organizations you will
be able to reach the students who are at risk.
